PR 260: RESPONDING TO THE UNANNOUNCED INSPECTION REPORT OF LONG LARTIN THAT TOOK PLACE IN OCTOBER 2024

POA Chair Mark Fairhurst said,

“This Inspection Report is further evidence of the crisis in the UK’s prisons. The use of drones to deliver drugs and phones into the jail, low morale amongst staff, rising levels of violence, poor and unsanitary conditions and high levels of sickness absence were all identified by inspectors who visited Long Lartin.”

The POA are concerned that a “not sufficiently good” rating for safety in a Category A Prison will result in more misery for our members and we expect urgent remedial action.

HMPPS must take immediate steps to ensure that all staff and prisoners at Long Lartin are safe. We will not accept our members being forced to work in such conditions.”
