Dave Smith has been nominated for the above award and the National Executive would ask members to consider voting for Dave who has worked tirelessly for the safety of all workers to his own detriment at times. The ballot closes on the 1st of December and the NEC apologise for the short notice, but we have just been made aware of this.
Dave Smiths book Blacklisted published in 2015 helped highlight the plight of thousands of construction workers unfairly banned from working for having raised concerns around welfare, including issues around Health and Safety. Daves investigations ultimately brought about historic High Court actions and substantial compensation for some workers who were blacklisted from working in the construction industry in this country. He continues to raise awareness on the topic and still writes and speaks on the impact of blacklisting on workers and their families.
Dave is an inspirational campaigner on workers health wellbeing and safety and is also a TUC Health and Safety tutor training new Health and Safety Reps he also writes the organising 101 column in Hazards magazine.
