SCOTLAND: RE: STUC UNION LEARNING: ACTIVE IQ LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE IN GYM INSTRUCTING

We have managed to secure funding for an online Level 2 Gym instructors’ course through the STUC Union learning fund. It is clear the course is popular amongst our membership and highly likely that interest will exceed the capacity, which is for 14 learners. The SPS have given us their full support in facilitating Union Learning courses and have assured us that they will support candidates who successfully apply for the course in their attendance (operationally contingent): which we thank them for.

The information for the course is as follows:

Course Portfolio of evidence – There are worksheet questions, assignments to complete ongoing throughout the course.

Practical Assessments – The learner is required to plan and instruct a one-to-one session as well as a small group where they will be observed delivering this and assessed against the standards of the qualification.

The course is all online via Zoom, however the assessment is an in person assessment. The final assessment will take place in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire and successful candidates are required to attend here in person to complete the practical aspect of the course.  POA conference mandate states that no union funds are to be used to fund union learning, therefore cost for travelling to attending the assessment is fully down to the candidate (the course is fully funded, it’s just travel to the assessment this relates to).  As the application had been agreed for our entire membership this course will be opened up to the entire membership to apply but please ensure you are fully aware of the statement in red above prior to applying for the course.

It is our intention to seek to have the 14 candidates from across as many sites as possible, and as we have more branches than spaces, we may be required to have a selection process/random ballot process in place for selection.

If you have previously applied and was unsuccessful in gaining a place on the course, please re-apply if it is still of interest to you.

You will see from the dates of the course they are during the week, and we would remind you that the SPS have agreed to work with us to help facilitate the time off, so please speak with your FLM in the first instance, to arrange this prior to committing to participate on the course.

At this stage we only require you to complete the application form attached with this email and get the completed forms to Karen.Ewen@poauk.org.uk by 5pm on 21st August 23.

You will be notified week of 28th August 2023, if you have been selected for the course.
