The POA are continually undertaking a process to determine asbestos exposure amongst members. The risk of asbestos exposure arises from the presence of asbestos in workplaces, particularly when it becomes damaged due to maintenance work or prisoner disturbances.
Attached is a Questionnaire which aims to collect information on past/current employment where there may have been exposure to asbestos in order to create a structured and permanent database of information and factual records.
Therefore, it is important that if you know or suspect that you have ever been exposed to asbestos, you should complete this form and return it to the address located at the end of the Questionnaire.
It is important to remember that not everyone who has been exposed to asbestos develops an asbestos related disease. However, for those who do develop disease, the effects can be devastating. By collecting information now on past/current employment for all members who know or suspect that they may have been exposed to asbestos, POA aims to assist any future claims for compensation for members who develop asbestos related illness. The information you provide is for your protection as well as possibly benefiting other members.
Please bring this Circular to the attention of your members.
Thank you for your assistance.
Yours sincerely
JOE SIMPSON
