CIRC 082: AUTUMN OF ACTION – LOBBY AND RALLY RESCHEDULED TO 2nd NOVEMBER 2022

Due to the new TUC Congress dates (18th-20th October), the TUC have rescheduled the lobby of parliament and evening mass rally to Wednesday 2nd November 2022. Westminster Central Hall is still booked as the base for the day and evening.
Before the TUC rescheduled the national lobby, over 320 people had registered to meet their MP. The TUC are contacting these people and supporting them to book in meetings with their MP on 2nd November 2022. 320 sign-ups is a good start but we need hundreds more union members to sign up to make their voice heard.

It’s time for a new deal for working people. We need a real pay rise for every worker, starting with a £15 minimum wage as soon as possible, and more help with bills. It’s time to ban zero hours contracts and end fire and rehire.

Only working people can deliver this change - so this Autumn, the TUC are taking action. The action will take the form of;

Holding town hall meetings in every region of England and in Wales. We are coming together to demand better. Join union leaders and local campaigners at a town hall event near you to discuss how we come together to win a new deal for working people!

Calling a National Day of Action on Friday 14th October 2022. The TUC are delivering action on the cost-of-living crisis and workers’ rights in every constituency in England and Wales. Join activists in your area to call for wage rises and a budget that delivers for working people.

Organising a mass-lobby of Parliament on Wednesday 2nd November
2022. We want every MP to hear from workers from their constituency about the reality of the cost-of-living crisis. Join the mass lobby of MPs in London and ask your MP to support a budget that delivers for working people.
Holding a rally in Methodist Central Hall at 6pm on Wednesday 2nd November 2022. After we have lobbied our MPs, we’ll be holding a huge rally in Methodist Central Hall. Join us to hear from frontline workers and union leaders about how they are fighting for higher pay and fairer treatment at work.

The Government has failed to deal with the cost-of-living emergency. They sat back while living standards plummeted. And now they prioritise tax cuts for the rich, attacking trade unions and cutting rights at work.

Travel and subsistence will be payable for all POA members who attend. SECOND CLASS RAIL FARE WILL BE PAYABLE UNLESS IT IS MORE CONVENIENT AND ECONOMICAL FOR DELEGATES TO TRAVEL TOGETHER IN ONE CAR WHERE MILEAGE OF 45p PER MILE PLUS 2p PASSENGER RATE WILL BE PAYABLE. THIS WILL ONLY BE APPROVED IN CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE THE COST DOES NOT EXCEED SECOND CLASS RAIL FARE. PLEASE ENSURE THAT WHERE RAIL TICKETS ARE PURCHASED THAT THEY ARE PRE-BOOKED IN ADVANCE SAVER TICKETS. SUCH TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED FROM www.thetrainline.com or www.raileasy.co.uk. It is essential your Expenses Claim form is emailed to Paula Larwill - finance@poauk.org.uk no later than 12.00noon on 14th October 2022 as payment of expenses will be by BACS in advance of the Lobby. Claims received after the above date may have to be paid post Lobby by BACS. No cash payments for expenses will be made.

Can I take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your help and support for this Campaign and ask that you give the contents of this Circular as wide a coverage as possible, to ensure a good turnout from the POA membership. Further information will be communicated in due course.

Yours sincerely
