CIRC 085: PENSION CHALLENGE - PRISON OFFICER GRADES IN ENGLAND & WALES WHO COMPLETED THE SURVEY IN 2017

Circular 073/2022 provided an update on the process of settling the compensation claims for members following the discriminatory changes made to the civil service and NHS pension schemes in 2015.

As stated in the circular, a settlement has been agreed for members employed in England and Wales who completed the survey in 2017. We are progressing the settlement of claims for other members who completed the survey in 2017 or who completed the second survey in 2020.

Our solicitors effectively need to construct a completely new payroll for the members whose cases can be settled now, and the Government has agreed to meet the cost of doing so.

To ensure that it is accurate, we need to be sure that we have your up-to-date details. Some members will have moved house since 2017. Some members will have changed their names on marriage. Some members did not supply some of the information originally requested in 2017.

• You are or were a member of the civil service pension scheme; and
• You are or were employed in England and Wales; and
• You competed the survey in 2017

Would you please send the following information to pensions2017@poauk.org.uk

• Your national insurance number
• Your home email address
• Your telephone number

Please note we need answers to all of these questions. If you do not have some of this information (for instance, if you don’t have a home email address) please say so rather than leave the question blank.

This needs to be done as a matter of urgency as we would like to get your compensation paid as soon as possible.

The email address above will be open until the 9th of November 2022 when the list will be sent to our solicitors for them to deal with.

PLEASE NOTE: at this stage this request is only addressed to Prison Officer Grades in England and Wales who completed the 2017 survey. We will make the same request for information to other members at a later stage when we are in a position to settle their cases.
