CIRC 097: RETIRED MEMBERS COMMITTEE

The Rules and Constitution are clear that under Rule 5, we will have a retired members section and that qualification for retired membership is having been a full member until ceasing qualification for full membership under Rule 4.1.

Under Rule 5.1 (b) there should be a Retired Members Committee comprising;

  1. Chairperson
  2. Vice Chairperson
  3. Secretary
  4. Up to two committee members

The Retired Members Committee under the Rules and Constitution do not have executive powers but can make recommendations to the NEC for their consideration. I would like to go on record of thanking the current committee which the NEC put in place by appointment in 2016 for the work that they have carried out in the last 5 years.

Rule 5.1 (g) states “The NEC will determine from time to time the format and personnel of the Retired Members Committee”.

At the NEC meeting on 8th November 2021 the Executive decided to advertise for expressions of interest to be considered for positions on the Committee. Branches can nominate Retired Members and Retired Members can also apply directly to nicola@poauk.org.uk by the 31st December 2021 for consideration. The NEC have also decided that the current members of the Committee can also apply for consideration to continue on the Retired Members Committee.

We hope to have the Committee in place for the end of January 2022.

Yours sincerely

STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
