The People’s Assembly against Austerity has called a national rally to demand a new normal as society moves away from this round of Covid-19 restrictions. The POA have been supporters of the People’s Assembly for many years as they have supported many of our issues including the right to strike. In the past POA members have attended the rallies whether with the POA or indeed their Trades Council.
The rally will convene at 1pm in London’s Portland Place, outside the BBC studios.
The themes for the rally are;
Save the NHS.
Safe Jobs – End Fire and Re-hire.
Renationalise Key Industries.
Keep the Market out of Education.
The Police, Crime and Sentencing Bill.
The POA urge colleagues that do attend to abide by any Covid-19 safety instructions that remain in place for Central London.
The POA believe that citizens have the civil right to peaceful protest and demonstration.
However, with any organised event, regardless of the planning and measures put in place by the organisers, opportunists may take advantage of the media audience and see it as an opportunity to incite public disorder, to that extent POA attendees should be vigilant to that prospect and must distance themselves from any potential public order incidents that may occur outside of the rally organisers control and to adhere to any instructions from Rally Marshalls or the Police.
Representing over 30,000 Prison, Correctional and Secure Psychiatric Workers, the POA is the largest UK Union in this sector, able to trace its roots back more than 100 years.
