Many members may be unaware that the Winter Influenza Vaccination Programme for the 2020/21 flu season has been extended, with more groups eligible to receive the Influenza Vaccine than in previous years. As COVID-19 is likely to be co-circulating with flu, protecting our members, especially those at high risk of flu and those most vulnerable to hospitalisation as a result of COVID-19 remains one of our key priorities.
HMPPS Occupational Health have arranged 221 Clinics at HMPPS Prisons (2 at each site). Staff can be released from their duties to receive their immunisation by arrangement with their People Hub or Immunisation Coordinator. Immunisation is available for all HMPPS staff.
To make sure as many staff can be protected from winter flu as possible, staff can also attend their local pharmacy or GP to be immunised and can claim back the cost through SOP. Immunisation will commence on the 28th September 2020 across the estate. and further details will be issued by the employer.
The POA along with all other recognised Unions welcome this initiative. We strongly recommend that all members take advantage of this vital programme so that we all continue to play our part in the battle against COVID-19.
Representing over 30,000 Prison, Correctional and Secure Psychiatric Workers, the POA is the largest UK Union in this sector, able to trace its roots back more than 100 years.
