POA Circular 124/2020 promulgated the timetable for the above election.


As you may be aware, POA Learning is funded by the Union Learning Fund, a government fund with the aim of supporting trade unions to widen access to learning and training in workplaces whilst also supporting community members to build key skills.


The nomination process ended on Friday 9th October 2020 and POA Circular 138/20 was promulgated with those nominations for each of the 4 candidates.

I am pleased to announce that a long-standing National dispute surrounding protections for Band 4 staff In the Open and Female Estate has now been resolved.

Please be aware of the following guidance that has been issued to Governors, ensuring that you adhere to the newly imposed restrictions on social visits.


HMPPS have agreed that if staff choose to wear a face mask whilst on duty, in any area, at any time, they may do so. This will be personal choice and no permission is needed.


Further to POA Circular 124/2020 the closing date for receipt of branch nominations was Friday 9th October 2020.

Please ensure all POA members view the contents of this Circular.


Towards the end of last week and in line with the new government restrictions that were announced, the SNC were approached by SPS for the resumption of visits in all sites as visit rooms are not deemed as a prisoners home.

Representing over 30,000 Prison, Correctional and Secure Psychiatric Workers, the POA is the largest UK Union in this sector, able to trace its roots back more than 100 years.
