Every two years the TUC survey Union Health & Safety reps to help them understand reps’ experiences, the risks of work and what reps want them to focus on in their campaigning and education courses.

As you are aware the NEC are committed to the continued training and development of local Branch Officials.

Violence and exposure to traumatic incidents is a daily experience for Prison Officers in England and Wales and the situation is getting worse according to the latest statistics published by the Ministry of Justice. 

It has been a while since I last did an update. I recognise the National Chair Mark Fairhurst does a monthly update so there is little point in being repetitive but there are some important issues for me to report to you on.

 

The union representing the UK's 35,000 prison officers has welcomed the trial introduction of tasers in prisons.

Representing over 30,000 Prison, Correctional and Secure Psychiatric Workers, the POA is the largest UK Union in this sector, able to trace its roots back more than 100 years.
