COVID-19

As local committees continue to work on Exceptional Delivery Models that will progress regimes from level 3 to level 2, we should remain vigilant to the threat of COVID in our secure settings.

New Guidance has been published which is available on the Intranet. The document is entitled: Guidance for the Support and Management of those Staff who are Clinically Extremely Vulnerable, those Living with the Clinically Extremely Vulnerable and the Clinically Vulnerable.

The UK Government has recently mandated the use of face coverings in certain settings. However, in making this announcement, they also acknowledged that a small number of individuals may have legitimate reasons for not adhering to the requirement.

As an interested party in this consultation the POA as the recognised trade union were invited to put our submission in by the Secretary of State Robert Buckland QC MP.

The National Executive Committee have been made aware of further guidance that affects staff who are Extremely Vulnerable and remain at home shielding. Members should be made aware of the following correspondence that has been forwarded to all Governors and PGDs.

As I have indicated in previous updates the POA have been in discussions with HMPPS regarding the medium term recovery plan. HMPPS have agreed wording to the National Framework with the POA and other recognised Unions within HMPPS. The National Executive wish to make you aware of recent amendments to the process that governs outstanding Internal Adjudicator (IA) referrals.

 

The Prime Minister on Sunday 10th May 2020 took the first steps in easing the coronavirus lockdown in a pre-recorded message stating he wants to encourage people to take more and unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise provided they stick to social distancing guidelines and stay two metres apart.
