POA Circulars

As part of the POA International work which has been approved by Annual Conference, Cuba solidarity have invited the POA to send young trade unionists to Cuba May Day in 2026.

Please find enclosed a copy of the POA Written Pay Submissions covering Public Sector Prisons in England and Wales for 2026/27. The remit group covers all POA members from Bands 2-5 and managers at grades 7-12.

The POA has recently completed a comprehensive survey of all members across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland regarding the issue of retirement age. Our colleagues in Scotland were ahead of us, having completed their survey earlier in the year.

The NEC have recently noted the increase in Article 2 Investigations in establishments. Article 2 investigations are inquiries triggered when the state may have failed to protect someone's right to life, as guaranteed under Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all POA members.

It is with great sadness we report to the membership the death of former Assistant General Secretary, John Sutcliffe, who passed away on Thursday 23 October 2025.

 

On 24th October 2025 a prisoner was released in error from HMP Chelmsford. The NEC determined that we would not do any media interviews until such times as we understood what had happened.
