POA Circular 30/2025 advised of the sad passing of Honorary Life Member, Tony Freel on Saturday 17 May 2025.

Please find attached NEC minutes for the 21st May 2025 for your information.

Following the adoption of the above motions, members may apply for 10, 15, 20, and 30-years membership badges providing the criteria is met as set out on the attached pro-forma.

Recent statistics from the Prison Reform Trust Bromley Briefings show how prison safety has declined significantly over the last decade, with self-harm rates remaining at historically high levels and violence against both staff and prisoners continuing to rise.

Following the Special Delegates Conference in March 1996, the Executive informed delegates that they would be seeking "two candidates" nominated by branches to attend the TUC Conference annually.

It is with great sadness we report to the membership the death of Honorary Life Member Tony Freel, who passed away on Saturday 17 May 2025.

Representing over 30,000 Prison, Correctional and Secure Psychiatric Workers, the POA is the largest UK Union in this sector, able to trace its roots back more than 100 years.
