The POA Condemn The Director General of The Prison Service Following The Failed Court Proceedings

Today, in the Royal Courts of Justice the Prison Service failed in their attempt to jail members of the National Executive Committee and or fine the POA are as result of the Contempt of Court proceedings.

The Judge made no order in the case for contempt, indeed he said to the Prison Service representatives, that should they wish to bring a contempt case against the POA, they needed to “get their tackle in order”.

In his ruling the Judge said he was satisfied that there was no intent shown by the Union to breach the previous Court Order.

A request by the legal representatives of the Prison Service for costs was denied with the Judge making clear that this matter should have been resolved through industrial relations.

Colin Moses, POA National Chairman said:

“It is a sad day when the Director General of the Prison Service, once again takes this Union to Court rather than conducting industrial relations through a partnership approach and acceptable methods. This is the sixth time that the Director General has taken the POA to Court, and as a result of his actions the Executive are left with no alternative but to condemn him and ask him to consider his position following the waste of tax payers money in pursuing his agenda of destroying this Union”.
