Press releasesREF: PR/17/05 DATE: 17th October 2005 To: ALL POLITICAL PRESS RELEASE Re-Election Of POA National ChairmanColin Moses, leader of the 35,000 strong POA was today re-elected unopposed for a further term of five years. At the end of a three week nomination period Mr Moses, the only elected black trade union leader in the United Kingdom, received nominations from branches throughout the country. Mr Moses said, "I am delighted that the membership had seen fit to endorse me for another five years". He went onto say, "At a time when prisons in England and Wales are in a crisis state due to overcrowding and the whole of the public sector Prison Service in the United Kingdom is under the threat of privatisation, the POA must be at the forefront of defending public sector jobs and must use everything in our power to influence the Government’s penal policy."
