POA National Chairman Visits HMP Shotts in Scotland

The National Chairman of the POA Colin Moses is to visit HMP Shotts on Thursday 15th February 2007, as problems continue to escalate in the Prison Service throughout the United Kingdom.

Mr Moses said:

“I am concerned that the Home Secretary, Dr John Reid has still not visited HMP Shotts considering that it is in his Constituency. However, nothing surprises me with Mr Reid; he still ignores the POA’s request for a formal meeting amid the growing problems within the Prison Service and Home Office”.

When asked why he was visiting a prison in Scotland, Mr Moses replied:

“This is not my first visit to HMP Shotts since the Union’s merger with Scotland in 2000. I have visited every prison in Scotland during my term of office as National Chairman and it is vital that visible leadership is maintained. We are experiencing some difficulties in Scotland and I am keen to ensure that those POA members recognise that they are supported by their colleagues in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Partnership Agreement in Scotland generally works well and I will assist in anyway I can to keep things on the straight and narrow”.
