Press releasesREF: PR/015/08 DATE: 6th May 2008 To: MPs PRESS RELEASE THE POA CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE ACTIONDelegates at the POA’s 69th Annual Conference at the Guildhall in Portsmouth have decided to support the call for immediate action which includes a strict work to rule, arriving at their place of work at the correct time and working strictly in accordance with the local security strategy. Colin Moses, National Chairman of the POA said: “Members of the POA were very supportive of the call for immediate action. The employer and Government have constantly abused the good will of staff throughout the United Kingdom. It is clear that prison regimes cannot be maintained unless additional resources are put in place if the employees work the hours that they are paid for.” Brian Caton, General Secretary of the POA, said: “The Prison Service abuses the policies when it suits their needs, but when something goes wrong they immediately apportion blame to the staff and sack the workers. We have been taken to court and a judge made it clear that we can persuade POA members to adhere to POA policy. This Union will persuade all members to follow these policies to ensure they are safe in the workplace.” For further information contact: |
