PRISON SERVICE FACE UP TO THE THREAT OF INDUSTRIAL ACTION

Delegates at the POA’s 69th Annual Conference at the Guildhall in Portsmouth have decided to support the call for industrial action up to and including strike action.

Colin Moses National Chairman of the POA said:

“Members of the POA are very angry at the way they have been treated year on year over their pay. The employer and Government have constantly eroded the living standards ofprison staff throughout England and Wales in the drive to save money from public services. ThePrison Service put forward1.75% in 2003; 1.25% in 2004; 0.5% in 2005 0% 2006 and £500 for 2007 no wonder the workers have decided enough is enough.

“The National Executive Committee will now consider the decision of Conference and take the appropriate steps to carry out the wishes of conference”.
