POA welcome the announcement to keep prisons public

The POA has welcomed the announcement from the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice (Rt. Hon. Chris Grayling) to keep HMPs Coldingley, Durham and Onley within the public sector prison service and to renationalise HMP The Wolds at the end of the current G4S contract in July 2013.

The announcement will have been welcomed by POA members and their families in these establishments.

The POA will ensure that all prisons provide a safe, secure and decent environment for staff and prisoners alike, whilst ensuring the public is protected.

Safe, secure and decent prisons are non-negotiable.
