POA Slam Crispin Blunt Justice Minister

The POA are concerned that Justice Minister Crispin Blunt is making a mockery of the Criminal Justice System, only months after taking up office.  The concern comes after he was reprimanded by Downing Street on prisoner parties and other  soft options.

Colin Moses National Chairman of the POA said:

“He appears to be jumping from one crisis to another.  If it is not sentencing policy it is parties for prisoners.  Mr Blunt is being ridiculed at every turn.  Perhaps, if he met national representatives from this Union, we could assist him from making any further embarrassing comments and getting humiliated further”.

The POA point out that had Crispin Blunt Justice Minister engaged with the POA instead of the Private Sector and Voluntary Sector on such issues, then he may have taken a very different stance and saved himself from being ridiculed by the press.

Steve Gillan General Secretary went further:

“I am alarmed that Mr Blunt is making so many rash statements without any background knowledge.  It would appear to me that he is a dead man walking, not many Justice Ministers can make so many mistakes and survive.   If he is not prepared to engage with the POA, perhaps he should be put out of his misery and sacked by Downing Street before he causes any further embarrassment”.

The POA are still seeking a first meeting with a Minister since the Coalition was formed in May 2010.

END.
