POA News

The TUC has called a National Demonstration on Saturday 12th May 2018 in London and the POA are fully supporting this call. The National Executive Committee believe that, following on from the successful rally and lobby of Parliament, attended by a large number of branches, that the POA now joins with our sister unions in this wider demonstration.

This event forms part of the TUC Great Jobs Agenda Campaign, which sets out the movements key demands of Government, for how we win a new and better deal for working people across the country.

We want workers to realise that their jobs are important, we want employers to sign up to make all their jobs great jobs, and we want MPs in Parliament and Councillors in Local Authorities to commit to making great jobs for all a possibility.

The Great Jobs Agenda sets out that the Trade Union movement believes that all workers must:
• be paid fairly
• work in a safe and healthy workplace
• be treated decently
• have regular hours
• get a voice on what matters at work; and
• get the chance to get on in life

The TUC and the POA intend to run a well-organised, inclusive, family-friendly, non-sectarian and safe event. It will kick off with a march followed by a rally with speakers from across the movement.

The speaker line-up will show the diversity of the wider trade union movement – and seek to ensure that the audience hears frontline workers, as well as women and BME speakers.

The NEC hope to see as many members, their family members and friends attend this demonstration, so that the message is heard by Government loud and clear, that the time has come for them to look again at their policies for the working people of this country and make the positive changes so urgently needed.

As it becomes available we will provide further information on the arrangements for this important campaigning event, for now we would ask that members put this date in your diaries. This will be a day when you can do your part in supporting this campaign by coming along and joining with POA members from across the country in a show of strength and solidarity, along with fellow workers and union members from the wider Trades Union Movement.

Let’s make the POA be seen and heard on the 12th May 2018.

Yours sincerely

Steve Gillan
