POA LEGAL CHALLENGE AGAINST CONTEMPT OF COURT TO BE CHALLENGED AT APPEAL

The Secretary of State for Justice instructed Government Lawyers to apply for a Contempt of Court against the POA.

The Divisional Court has now ruled in a Judgement today that the POA defence to Contempt of Court has failed and that we were in breach of the Permanent Injunction and the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act. The POA has been fined in total £210,000.

This is a disappointing result and our struggle for justice will continue. The National Executive Committee had already determined that if we lost this legal case then we would instruct our legal team to seek leave to appeal on the contempt and indeed the issues pertaining to our Human Rights.

The POA General Secretary Steve Gillan stated;

“The POA have been restricted by the Courts and Legislation since 1994. For 25 years we have campaigned against this pernicious piece of legislation which restricts POA members basic Human Rights. We hope our appeal against this Judgement will be successful”.
