HEALTH & SAFETY NOTICE 04/2015: FOR ACTION BY OUR MEMBERS IN THE OPEN, FEMALE AND JUVENILE ESTATE

At the recent Health and Safety Consultative Committee meeting the issue of batons within the Open, Female and Juvenile Estate was debated by the committee.

In conjunction with our colleagues on the Security and Custody Whitley, we have approached NOMS asking for batons to be issued to our members citing the increasing levels of violence through alcohol and substance abuse and in particular the use of spice within our workplace.

NOMS have informed us there is little evidence to support what we are reporting o them. Therefore, we would ask all Health and Safety Reps within the Open,

Female and Juvenile Estate to assist by investigating and reporting to me, via Helen at North Regional Office (helen@poauk.org.uk), incidents which have taken place within your establishment so we can build a case for their issue.

Many thanks for your assistance.

Yours sincerely

JOE SIMPSON

Secretary of Health and Safety Committee
