POA Circulars

Members will be aware that the POA is holding a mass rally and lobby of Parliament on Wednesday 20th March 2019 at the Central Methodist Hall, Westminster, London SW1H 9NH.
This event will predominantly cover the following three fundamental areas:

  1. “68 is too late” pension campaign
  2. Violence in the workplace
  3. Prison privatisation

The march will assemble on Whitehall Place WC2N (map to follow). It will form up from 10:30am and move off at 11am and march along Whitehall, past Downing Street and on to the Methodist Central Hall. The Rally will take place in Methodist Central Hall at 12.30pm, finishing at around 3pm with members then lobbying their Members of Parliament.

The purpose of the rally is to continue to bring our issues into the public domain. Public support is vital to build pressure on politicians of all political parties so that commitments are made expressing their open support for workers in the Criminal Justice System – from prisons to our Secure Psychiatric Hospitals and Immigration Services.

It is vital that we have as many POA members attending this event as possible. To this end, all Branch Secretaries are asked to look at the best methods to maximise the number of POA members and supporters attending on the day.

The NEC would like to call on all members who are not at work on this day to try to get to London and support the Union. If staff are on a rest day, able to swap a shift or on annual leave, we would ask them to commit to attend on the 20th March 2019.

All members or retired members who want to help in the fight for the future of our Criminal Justice System should contact their local committee to find out more about the transport arrangements they have put in place. Further details and briefings on the plans for this event will be promulgated as we get closer to the date. Local committees will also be sent updates to help with the organisation and encouragement of members to attend on the day.

Yours Sincerely

General Secretary
