NATIONAL CHAIR ELECTION 2017 NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE x 1 ELECTION 2017 NOMINATION PROCEDURES, TIMETABLE AND ELECTION ADDRESSES

Further to POA Circular 57/2017, I have decided to suspend the timetable as set out in that Circular due to a vacancy now arising for the position of National Chair. As explained at Annual Conference there is a substantial saving to the Union to run the vacant positions for election together.

Listed below is the new timetable and procedure for the forthcoming election for the National Chair and the National Executive Committee x 1 election.

The person elected for National Chair will serve the balance of the term of the person replaced which is until the end of Annual Conference May 2021. The person elected for the National Executive Committee will serve the balance of the term of the person replaced which is until the end of Annual Conference May 2020.

SECRET POSTAL BALLOTS: PROCEDURE RULE 11.2
Branch Committee members should:
(a) Hold a branch meeting to discuss the election. No branch meetings, for nomination purposes, should be convened until close of nominations, as stated in the officially published timetable;
(b) read out all requests for nominations and nominate a candidate for the vacant position or inform the General Secretary that the branch failed to nominate any candidate;
(c) encourage members to vote.

ELECTION ADDRESSES
It is suggested that the following information will assist consistency of the ballot procedures and should be forwarded to the General Secretary at Cronin House by 12.00noon on Friday 23rd June 2017

1. Date joined POA
2. Previous establishment/s
3. POA Experience (i.e. Branch Chair/Secretary/Committee/length of time in post/NEC).
4. Two photographs
5. Election Addresses should either be typed on CD/Disk or the preferred option, emailed to the General Secretary’s Office at the following email address - nicola@poauk.org.uk. Those candidates who are unable to type their election address and/or send it by CD/Disk or email can prepare their election address in writing and send it by post to the General Secretary’s Office at Cronin House. It would be helpful if any election address sent by post is sent by recorded delivery.

It would also be helpful for candidates to provide contact numbers with their election addresses.

Candidates are reminded that election addresses must be limited to 500 words. This does not include Nominating Branches and Service History.

Any election addresses over 500 words will be edited.

UP-TO-DATE MEMBERSHIP RECORDS
As you know all national elections are conducted under postal ballot rules and procedures.

It is vital that local officials ensure their membership list is updated and any amendments are reported to the membership department by 12 noon on the 26th June 2017 at the very latest. An up-to-date membership list is attached for your convenience.

Members have the right to receive their ballot papers at home or their place of work. It is the responsibility of all members to provide an address for postal ballots. If members wish to amend their ballot address for this and future postal ballots, this again should be done by the 11th July 2017.

Please draw the contents of this Circular to all members as a matter of urgency.

Thanking you in anticipation of your support and cooperation.

Yours sincerely

STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
