BALLOT RESULT FOR PRISON REFORM AGREEMENT

The above ballot has now concluded and the scrutineers and tellers appointed by Conference have given the following report;

There was a 51.8% turnout.

In favour 33.7%
Against 65.7%
Spoilt papers 0.6%

Therefore, the membership in England and Wales have rejected what NOMS and Government described as their best and final offer. The National Executive Committee would like to thank our membership for their professionalism during the ballot process.

I urge Employer and Government to engage with the Executive in the New Year to resolve the outstanding issues in relation to this ballot outcome. This is a large rejection and the Executive will do everything in its power to re-negotiate on these essential issues. We urge Government and Employer to reflect on this outcome and not walk away from the negotiating table.

Yours sincerely
