JOINT STATEMENT HEALTH & SAFETY

We met with the Secretary of State Liz Truss yesterday at the Ministry of Justice where we had a candid discussion about the way forward.

It is fair to say that lots had been said during this dispute by Government Officials and indeed by us in protecting our positions.

We recognise the most important issue is to get a remedy to our Health & Safety concerns. There were commitments from both the Secretary of State and indeed Michael Spurr for us to recognise that there had been a change of attitude and therefore allowing us to make statements to the media that the discussions with the Secretary of State were helpful and progressive due to her commitments, in ensuring discussions which addressed our concerns regarding Regime Management Plans would be crucial to an agreement.

It is essential that we deliver an agreement with Government and NOMS negotiators, which address our concerns so that we achieve safeguards for our members in England and Wales.

The Secretary of State wants a rapid conclusion to the Health and Safety negotiation as we do, therefore negotiations will continue.

Once again, we would like to thank the membership for their support and resolve and we look forward to the Health and Safety concerns of the Union being agreed in the near future.

Yours sincerely
