PROPOSED SPECIAL DELEGATES CONFERENCE 21 st SEPTEMBER 2016

The National Executive Committee at its meeting on the 27 th July 2016 passed the following proposal;

“Given the fact that a new Secretary of State has taken up office and until such time as the POA NEC are informed of her plans for Reform the planned SDC is suspended until the information is forthcoming”.

The fact is the White Paper on Prison Reform has been deferred until the Autumn and we need to fully understand what Prison Reform is to mean before Conference takes a position on it. The Executive had previously passed various motions pertaining to reform, which had not been promulgated to the field. These motions will be put on hold until the various scenarios become clearer.

I am sure the membership accept SDC’s are expensive and can cost up to £50,000 so we need to ensure that they are fully justified.

I will keep you informed of further developments in respect of what the new Secretary of State determines in the coming months and whether the need to have an SDC is warranted or not in respect of Prison Reform.

Your sincerely

STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
