POA TO SUPPORT LOCAL HOSPICE

At this year’s Annual Conference, a significant amount of money was raised for a number of Charities, in addition, Conference authorised the POA’s Finance Committee to add to the amounts raised.

One of the Charities to benefit from the generosity of the POA was Francis House Hospice. Francis House was again the Chairman’s Charity this year and they gave a short presentation to delegates to explain their role and that of all Hospice’s throughout the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. It was extremely emotional and emphasised the need for such organisations within society today. At this year’s Conference Delegates raised £2,325.00 for Francis House in addition to the £5000 raised during 2015.

The Executive has been working with Francis House and retired members in developing a strategy to raise awareness of other local hospices within your area, in case any of your members wanted to fund raise for these worthwhile charities. Please find attached a nationwide list for information.

The POA Welfare Committee has agreed to a one off donation of £100 to each local hospice should a local branch/member decide to fund raise for one of their local hospices.

If a local branch/member wish to activate this donation they simply e-mail the secretary to the Welfare Committee Carol at carol@poauk.org.uk setting out which hospice they are supporting, what they are doing to raise funds, who the monies should be paid to and what their target is. A cheque will then be sent to that hospice or fund raiser.

The Executive would also encourage members and branches to raise the profile of the POA by promoting their good charity work through the pages of Gatelodge.

The Executive hope that all branch committee’s and or members will activate this one off donation so that local hospices benefit from the POA.

A report on this project will be provided to Conference 2017.

Please draw the contents of this circular to your member’s attention.

Thanking you in anticipation of your support and cooperation.

Yours sincerely

STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
