TUC March and Rally "Britain needs a pay rise" 18th October 2014

Many of you will be aware that the TUC has arranged a March and Rally in London on 18th October 2014.

The march will assemble from 11am on the Embankment. It will move from noon and march via Northumberland Avenue, Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly to Hyde Park for the rally. The rally in Hyde Park will start as the march reaches the park.

Announcing the TUC’s plans for a march and rally in London on 18 October, TUC General Secretary Frances O’ Grady said:
“Hard-pressed families across the UK must be beginning to wonder when the tough times they are experiencing will ever end. They keep hearing that the economy is growing and learning of yet another bonus extravaganza in the city, yet their own wages never seem to go far enough.
“Worries about money are a big deal for ordinary people. While their household budgets can just about stretch to cover everyday essentials, they are likely to have to load up their credit cards to meet the cost of any unexpected items.
“During the dark days of recession, workers accepted that their pay might have to be frozen or even cut to save jobs, but now the economy is picking up – and many employers can afford to pay their staff more – the time has come for Britain to get a pay rise.”

All POA members are encouraged to attend the march and rally to support the TUC’s campaign, “Britain needs a Pay Rise”.

On the 16th of July at the National Executive Meeting it was agreed that the NEC would encourage members to access their local TUC region to seek what travel arrangements other Unions have in place and if possible join with them to attend the march and rally. This will assist in minimising and reducing costs.

If there are no organised travel arrangements in place in your area or it is not feasible for you to link up with them, the NEC would appreciate it if branches/members would co-ordinate travel arrangements locally. For example, liaise with other local branches to see if it is feasible to organise a minibus or coach depending on numbers.

All members wishing to attend should contact their NEC representative who will assist in co-ordinating numbers if possible. In order for members to apply for travel and subsistence all applications should be sent to the Finance Officer Pete Chapple at Cronin House for approval by no later than 30th August 2014.

Please draw the contents of this Circular to all members attention.

Yours sincerely
