Ceramic Items & Razors in Establishments
The NEC have been informed over a period of time that there has been numerous incidents where POA members have been assaulted by prisoners using ceramic items and weapons fashioned from razor blades.
The Operations Whitley Committee took these issues forward at their meeting on the 30th October 2012. The NEC members on that committee were informed “that there are reasonable alternatives to ceramic items and razor blades, however there needs to be a way found to fund this. In the interim Governors would be expected to risk assess the availability of these items”.
Therefore, the NEC instructs all branch Health & Safety Representatives to take this forward to ensure the safety of POA members.
Yours sincerely
STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
