Fair & Sustainable Workplace Ballot

Following the promulgation of Branch Secretary Circular 1/2012 eligible branches in England and Wales have conducted workplace ballots.  The Scrutineers and Tellers attended Cronin House on the 25th of January 2012 and carried out an independent count of branch returns.  The result of the ballot is as follows:

No of Ballot slips Issued:   13,123
No of Ballot Slips Returned:   11,847
No of Votes in Favour (yes):     9,576
No of Votes Against (no):      2,174
No of Spoiled Ballot Slips:          97

Therefore the result of the workplace ballot in respect of the Fair and Sustainable offer is in favour of acceptance and this decision will be relayed to NOMS as soon as possible.

I apologise for not promulgating this Circular at the close of business on the 25th of January 2012, unfortunately a number of branches did not conduct or send in a return in respect of the workplace ballot and to ensure this was not due to a technical fault, the computers and fax machines at Cronin House had to be checked and cleansed.  Further, the NEC meeting did not conclude until after 18:00 hours and the support staff had left the office.   This circular has been promulgated as soon as possible, although the result was declared by the scrutineers and tellers in line with the ballot timetable set out in the Branch Secretary Circular.  The POA also received two late returns from branches which were excluded from the count.

I trust you will draw the content of this Circular to the attention of your members.  Thanking you for your co-operation and support.

Yours sincerely

General Secretary
