Legal Advice handbook - Updates
Attached are updates to the legal advice handbook. The updates include changes to the criminal law protocol and therefore it is important that the handbook is updated immediately.
We are also in the process of updating the website to allow members access to the updated handbook.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that if a member wishes to apply for legal advice they must complete an LA100 and relevant form from the handbook. If a form is sent to us and it is incomplete it will not be processed but returned to the branch. It is also important but not essential to forward all supporting documentation which the member may rely in support of their application.
It is the member’s responsibility to complete the form and to ensure that key deadlines aren’t missed:
- The normal time limit for issuing a claim in the Employment Tribunal is three months less one day from the incident;
- The normal time limit for pursuing a personal injury claim is three years from the date of the accident or knowledge of the illness (however to comply with legal protocols applications must be submitted to Cronin House within two years and six months to allow sufficient time for it to be processed and the relevant evidence obtained); and
- The normal time limit for pursuing a CICA claim is two years from the date of the assault.
It is in everyone’s interest that regardless of the type of claim, applications for legal advice are submitted as early as possible.
Will please ensure that the content of this circular is brought to the attention of all your members.
Thanking you in anticipation of your support and co-operation.
Yours sincerely
STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
