HMP Birmingham Privatisation

It was announced on Friday 1st July 2011, that there could be a potential loss of some 130 posts at HMP Birmingham in respect of the G4S Bid.

The National Executive Committee along with our officials at HMP Birmingham will continue to negotiate with NOMS and indeed G4S to try and ensure that there are no redundancies with regards to POA members.

There are various options to avoid redundancies including the transfer of members to advertised vacancies within the public sector.  We will continue dialogue to protect our members, but the Health and Safety of our membership will not be compromised for budget cuts or indeed profit.

Yours sincerely

STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
