Pensions Update

As you are aware there has been on-going discussions with TUC affiliated Unions and Francis Maude (Minister for the Cabinet Office), James Richardson (Her Majesty’s Treasury) and Danny Alexander (Chief Executive to the Treasury) in relation to the Hutton Review.

Further dates have now been finalised for the public sector pensions negotiating team and they will take place on Tuesday 10th May 2011 between 4pm and 6pm in the Cabinet Office, 70 Whitehall and Wednesday 25th May 2011 between 11am and 1pm at the same venue.

The POA have been in attendance at previous meetings and we have an agreement with Prospect and FDA on a rota of attendance.  In relation to this arrangement the attendee for the 10th May meeting will be Prospect and for the 25th May 2011 will be FDA.  Briefing notes are then circulated so all Unions are fully up to date.  This is done via the Public Services Liaison group meetings.

Further Brendan Barber TUC General Secretary and Dave Prentis (Chair PSLG) will meet with the Ministers on the 4th May 2011 and 12th May 2011.

There is a commitment to schedule two further negotiating team meetings in the June 2011.  Dates with Ministers are currently being canvassed and will be circulated as soon as they have been agreed and the POA will be at one of those meetings.  A variety of negotiations are on-going and of course this will be subject of debate at Annual Conference.  It is important that the membership realise that discussions are continuing in relation to the Hutton Report and will become clearer in due course.

Yours sincerely
