Branch Protest Meetings During Lunchtime

In a letter sent to Robin Wilkinson HR Director for NOMS on the 1st April 2011, he was advised that we would be sending a Circular to our membership instructing all branches in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to hold weekly lunchtime meetings to express their views and to protest at the privatisation of Birmingham and Featherstone 2 and the consequential transfer of employment of our members, so that they cease to be public servants and become the employees of private companies and that these meetings would take place until further notice.

This letter was sent as a result of correspondence from our Employer in England and Wales questioning POA Circular 47/2011.

The Executive at its meeting on 5th April 2011, have therefore determined that these protest meetings during lunchtime will commence from next week until the Executive determine otherwise.  The meeting for next week will be on Wednesday 13th April 2011.
The Executive would like to persuade all POA members to attend these protest meetings, to demonstrate solidarity with your colleagues at HMP Birmingham.

Yours sincerely

STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
