Competition Dialogue: Announcement of Public Sector bids

Following the promulgation of POA Circular 47/2011, a Special NEC Meeting was convened on Monday 21st March 2011 to discuss and develop the strategy in respect of the above.
At this meeting it was proposed:

“That the NEC instruct all branches in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, to hold a lunchtime meeting the day after the announcement of the Market Test Bids of Birmingham, Buckley Hall and Featherstone 2 to inform members of the decision.  Furthermore, all local POA Officials will remind members of the current policies of the union at that meeting”

This is one strand of the national strategy and other elements will be promulgated in due course.  The purpose of this circular is to inform local Committees of the National Executives decision, so that they can prepare for the meeting at short notice.

As you know, the date of the announcement is not yet known and whilst rumours are circulating, we need to be ready to respond to the Governments announcement.

I would be grateful if you could draw the contents of this circular to your members and discuss an implementation plan of this proposal within the local Committee.

Thanking you in anticipation of your total support and co-operation.

Yours sincerely

STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
