The POA Confidential Stress & Support Counselling Phone Line 0843 2084539

I am pleased to advise the membership that we have now secured the above which will further enhance the benefits of union membership. All too often members who are suffering as a result of stress, anxiety or any other underlying medical conditions are left isolated for far too long and as a result their conditions suffer.

Whilst we accept that the Prison Service uses the services of staff care and welfare, the Executive believe it is right and proper to improve the level of care and support we provide to our members wherever possible.

This free service will provide members with access to a team of dedicated qualified specialists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These specialists provide confidential non judgemental support and advice which will support members and assist them in dealing with their problems.

We all know that people deal with stress in different ways, sometimes it can have a positive influence, but more often than not, it has serious negative influences on individuals and all too often the consequences can be catastrophic.

This telephone call service is designed to support and advise those in need at the early stage rather than allowing the situation to deteriorate. It will provide members with the opportunity to contact a professionally trained Counsellor from the privacy of their home or a place they feel most comfortable.

The Executive will be promulgating a contact card with the details of this service to each member in due course and I would ask that local Committees distribute these as quickly as possible.

Thanking you in anticipation of your support and co-operation on this matter.

Further information can be obtained from the POA website at www.poauk.org.uk all calls to this number are charged at low rate.

Yours sincerely

Finance Officer
