Early Day Motion 985 - Violence in the Prison Estate

An Early Day Motion regarding the violence at Moorland and Warren Hill has been placed in the House of Commons by Elfyn LLwyd Member of Parliament for Plaid Cymru, his constituency being Dwfer Meirionnydd.  He is also Chair of the Justice Union Parliamentary Group.

Enclosed is a copy of the EDM 985, which recognises the bravery of Prison Officers, the prevention of further violence, the condemnation of violence to officers and those in our charge and calling for the Government to have another think regarding budget cuts, as identified within the Comprehensive Spending Review.

The Motion already has 11 signatures and was only placed in the House of Commons on the 10th November 2010.

This is an opportunity for the membership to write to their Member of Parliament asking them to lend their support by signing the EDM.

It is important that the membership write and forward the answers they receive to Steve Lewis at North Regional Office.

Please bring this Circular to the attention of your members and encourage them to write to their MP by doing so will help to raise awareness with the public and media.

Yours sincerely

STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
