Fishers Hotel, Pitlochry
29th October & 30th October
**UPDATE - click here to watch the speeches from the POA Scotland Annual Conference**
We are holding our Annual Conference for 2009 at the newly refurbished Fishers Hotel, in the beautiful Highland town of Pitlochry, on Thursday 29th October and Friday 30th October.
This year will be Derek Turner’s last Scottish POA Conference as he retires next summer. He has been a loyal servant of the POA for many, many years and was the Scottish POA’s General Secretary before the merger of the two unions. We hope that he will enjoy this last Conference and look forward to the days when he can just attend as a guest and not put in any of the hard work.
The new HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, Brigadier Hugh Munro will be speaking for the first time to the Conference on the afternoon of 29th. He will also be staying of for the Conference dinner that night, so we hope to begin a long and fruitful relationship with him. The First Minister, Alex Salmond will also, hopefully, be speaking, although final details are yet to be confirmed. We hope for the first time, to be able to put the key note speeches directly on to the website during the course of Conference.
There will be the usual mixture of work and socialising and we will be welcoming delegates, new and old, Honorary Life Members, fraternal guests from the Scottish Police Federation and the Irish POA and some senior managers from the Scottish Prison Service.

We take this opportunity to support two Scottish Charities and this year the money raised will be going to a small charity, Parcels4Troops (www.freewebs.com/parcels4troops), which sends comfort parcels to British service men and women on active duty in war zones. This charity is run by POA members in HMP Edinburgh and they do a wonderful job, both for the troops and their families, check out their website to find out more about their great work.
The other charity we are supporting this year is CRUSE. This wonderful charity works with bereaved families to help them cope with the grief of losing a loved one. We are aware of many of our members in Scotland who have used their services and we’d like to give a little back to them. They do sterling work and have very little funding and we hope our delegates and guests will give generously. |

The Scottish Conference is a smaller affair than National Conference, this enables us to keep everyone together in the same hotel. This means that everyone, delegates, guests, SNC etc., works, eats and plays together. This usually makes for an intimate and friendly affair, although the debates and issues are as diverse and controversial as any. We pride ourselves on the professional, friendly, intimate atmosphere and look forward to a productive few days in the stunningly picturesque setting of Pitlochy.
